Why Can't I Just Install It?

In 2024, Google forcibly migrated Chrome extensions to Manifest V3 (MV3) — a new extension API that, among other things, severely limits how ad blockers can work. The old MV2 extensions (including uBlock Origin) were deprecated and are no longer installable from the Chrome Web Store on most builds.

Chromium-based browsers that followed Google's lead (Edge, Opera, Brave in some configs) have the same issue. Firefox, being Firefox, said "nah" and kept MV2 support. Legends.

Important: uBlock Origin Lite exists as an MV3 version but has significantly reduced filtering capabilities. It is not the same product.
